AQUARIUM
Spring 2009 was much about the short-film "Aquarium". I was engaged as a scenographer for this film. But because the main character "Emma" is a paintress, I also produced a few paintings for the scenography. Two of these paintings are worked on by "Emma" in the film. So my engagement also involved showing the actress, Viktoria Winge, how to use the brushes, pallette, rags tools and materials. During the shooting I also did my best to keep track of the continuity of the props. With great help from my assistant Ida Lervåg.
"Emma" lives a life in solitude. She spends her working days painting using her self as a motif and subject. "Emma" is deaf, so I figured a painting with falling ears was in line. The falling ears of this painting became a my signature in the film.
In the film we see "Emma" struggle with the eyes in this painting. She gets frustrated and covers the eye-holes with wite paint. Because this painting is done in oil the acress, Viktoria, could overpaint the eyes repeatedly. I easily removed the paint between each shooting.
By removing a fake wall we were able to fit almost the whole apartment in one frame. The scenography is composed acording to the image on the monitor. Furniture and objects are moved around to create good compositions. Film is image.
My brother Bård Røssevold is both script-writer, director and much more. "Aquarium" is his film, but the two of us worked close together during the whole process. We both enjoy creating together.
